On the second run,
Genius1 decided that Genius2 should have the honour of the race.
On this occasion the contestants were lined up for a standing
start with no shove-off permitted. Team Genius surprised even
it's own team at the speed which accelerated towards the first
corner. With the others still gathering momentum (see photo
1 for the gap between the first two cars, also note the smile
on Genius2's face that was about to disappear. Har, har!), Team
Genius reached the corner and took it with ease and tight in
to the inside. This is where it went wrong. Team Genius' balance
was designed to lean left, Genius2's balance was nowhere to
be seen...
Showing Genius2's lack of 4 wheel experience, he tried to compensate
too much for the car (see photo 2) and started to steer back
out into the road. Because Genius2 had never experienced Team
Genius' "twitchy" steering (and Team Genius had never
experienced Genius2's crap driving!), the car lurched back towards
the hedge in an effort to straighten out. The result was predictable.
Team Genius plunged it's left wing and nose into the hedge and
the car flipped and rolled before finally resting upside down
on it's rear spoiler. Due to it's rigid construction, the spoiler
held the car up and took any severe pressure off Genius2's neck,
which was currently at a right angle to the rest of him!
Apart from a few cuts and bruises, Genius2 was removed safely
from the car relatively unhurt (and enjoying the attention!).
Team Genius on the other hand was a write-off. On examination
later, the car's wheels were buckled beyond repair, the port
nose-wing snapped off, various damage to the shell and the rear
spoiler broken but held in place by the bodywork.
Genius2 would like
to thank the photographer (Genius3) for coming to his rescue,
apparently she was laughing too hard whilst taking these photos!
